John Cummings, M.A., MFT

For the past decade, Mr. Cummings has worked as a mental health therapist. In practice, he specializes in the areas of personal development and co-parenting, with an emphasis on father and male involvement. John is passionate about working with fathers to promote meaningful father-child relationships and bonds, practical co-parenting strategies, and child and family wellbeing. His work includes serving as lead facilitator of a research project aimed at promoting father involvement, developing fatherhood programs tailored to specific populations, providing consultation to organizations about father involvement and co-parenting approaches, and coaching for organizations to create father-friendly environments.

John is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, and holds a BA in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. Before beginning his private practice in 2010, he worked for more than 10 years for a diverse range of organizations including, Shell Oil Company, Oakland Unified School District, YMCA, and as director for two nonprofit community-based organizations. John is a father of two and lives in Hercules, CA, with his wife of 25 years, Gayle Cummings.
